This hands on class will cover the basics of alterations work that is commonly done on tops and bottoms. From blouses and tanks to jeans, skirts, and don’t forget activewear!! In this two session class you will learn how to fit your garment to you, which alterations are needed and in what order to do them.

Class includes 6 hours of instruction (2 sessions).

What to bring:
  • Every student should bring 2 different garments that will be fitted in class. Who knows what alterations we will get into here, the group will sew and learn together with each different garment.
  • Wear a close fitting tank top for fitting purposes, your garments will be fitted to you during the class.
  • Any crazy questions about altering clothes!

Basic Tools and Notions: Spool has most of the items in this list on hand. Please bring your favorites if you have them or buy from us! *For sale from Jen Rocket -cash only please
  • Regular hand sewing needles (*curved needles)
  • Fabric ONLY scissors
  • *Eagle Snips or tiny scissors
  • Seam ripper
  • Measuring tape
  • 6” ruler
  • Notebook, pen/pencil (bring yours)
  • *Chalk
  • Hook & Eyes, snaps
  • *Fray Check
  • *Curved safety pins, 2 sizes
  • Straight pins, cushion or magnet

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate. Student must already know how to use a sewing machine including threading, winding a bobbin, and minor troubleshooting. This class is meant to give you the confidence and skills to take your garment sewing to the next level!

About Jen Rocket: As a fourth generation seamstress behind the sewing machine by the age of 5, I continuously strive to perfect my craft and enjoy the challenges that come along with every new project. Specializing in women’s wear, I have worked independently for the past 4 years helping women of all ages and a ton of brides look and feel great in their garments. As a huge fan of Pittsburgh, I enjoy working to advance fashion and the art of sewing in this great city one stitch at a time.
